Description

Strategic Management is concerned with the direction and scope of the organisation. This involves determining the purpose of the organisation, establishing objectives and formulating strategies to achieve the objectives. The module will predominantly explore how both a single organisation and a corporation can position itself with regard to its internal and external environment in order to gain and sustain competitive or corporate advantage. At the end of the module students will have received a comprehensive `thinking kit' and `toolkit' for strategy which will allow them to continue developing their strategic skills.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module students should be able to:

  • critically appraise an organisation's internal and external environment as a means of achieving and sustaining advantage.
  • critically evaluate the key challenges global companies face
  • demonstrate an advanced understanding of the major approaches companies employ as they seek to dominate complex environments.
  • identify and appraise key strategy concepts and their role and application in strategic decisions making.
