Description	This dissertation module forms the key personal research element of the programme, and as such complements and provides the opportunity for putting into practice some of the ideas and methods covered in the other taught modules. Students select their own dissertation topic at an early stage on the course, albeit subject to the approval of the Programme Director, and progress work on it over the period of their registration with one-to-one supervision provided by a dissertation tutor, assigned because of their specialist knowledge of the chosen topic. In addition to one-to-one supervision, students will be required to attend 15 hours of taught provision - focusing on generic skills and techniques for dissertation design, methodology and writing of a dissertation. The dissertation module is to be particularly focused on an aspect of research related to the field of public services and associated management or policy-making. In this way the dissertation aims to provide a learning opportunity for specialism in a distinct field of public policy or public management and to address aspects of the role of research in such a context.
Learning Outcomes	By the end of this module the student will be bale to: Carry out an in-depth analysis of research data related to public services, public management or policy making; Develop and articulate core research questions for the dissertation; Devise and carry out a coherent plan for the dissertation research, analysis and completion; Write and present a coherent and analytical review of the literature related to the core research questions of the dissertation; Carry out a research-based piece of work that explores an area of public services, public management or policy making; Write and present a coherent account of this research-based work, located within appropriate theory; Make research-based recommendations based on the conclusions of the dissertation.
