Description The basic aim of this module is to use our understanding of economic theory and econometric methods to analyze various aspects of policy as pursued by developing countries. Emphasis will be placed on trying to analyze the causal impact of policy. Topics covered include: micro credit policies, antipoverty policies for economic growth and development; public expenditure policies and political economy issues in a global economy.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Critically analyze challenges facing policy makers in developing economies;
  • Conduct an in-depth evaluation of causal impact of actual policies that have been implemented;
  • Synthesise the pros and cons of public expenditure policies and summarise the complex political economy issues;
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the complexities of anti-poverty policies.
