Description
This module focuses on the importance of performance management in public service delivery. The module introduces students to the main theoretical perspectives that underpin performance management, and how these have developed and relate to the dynamics of public services delivery. Students will study the types and use of data to support performance management, and the practical skills and knowledge necessary for effective performance management. The module will also introduce different approaches to performance management across a range of countries.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Explain how organisations can adapt themselves to deliver better performance outcomes in relation to effective management of resources and public services.
Develop appropriate performance measures for public services.
Learn from case studies about organisational performance in order to improve service delivery and outcomes.
Gather and synthesise data from service users and other public organisations in a coherent manner in order to prioritise service outcomes.
