Description This module aims to enable students to understand and critically assess the economic and political context within businesses operate. It examines the institutional architecture of the regulatory institutions at micro, meso and macro (i.e. UK, EU and Global) level. It critically assesses theories explaining the spatial distribution of economic activity and the state of the macro level economy. A focus of the module is that it considers economic theories and their role in shaping government policies and the impact of economic outcomes on businesses.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the governance structure of the UK and European Union and to have an awareness of international economic institutions.
  • Assess the current state of the British, European and international economy.
  • Understand why the geography of production matters.
  • Construct a critical analysis of the relationship between economic theories and government policies for the development of businesses, economic growth and prosperity.
