Description
The aim of this module is to provide students with the theoretical understanding of the nature of management and to introduce them to the specifics of international management and the functional areas of management.
The module provides students with a critical awareness of five major issues associated with effective management. Strategic thinking, managerial decision making, innovation management, change management and organisational performance. These themes are underpinned by a business game where students work in groups to develop and launch their own product in a complex and competitive global market.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Show advanced understanding of key management practices in the context of the firm and domestic and international markets;
Critically appraise the relationship between management and international management;
Compare and contrast different approaches to business management;
Apply the theoretical concepts developed in the lectures to different management issues;
Critically evaluate the importance of the functional areas in management and their contribution to organisational dynamics;
Critically evaluate the factors which drive organisational performance and competitiveness;
Identify and systematically explain the importance and purpose of strategic thinking within a range of contexts.
