This module focuses on the development of academic and professional skills. The academic skills element focuses on the use of academic and practitioner literature to underpin study. The professional skills element will concentrate on developing group working and presentation skills.
The module mixes class based teaching with practical activities. A residential visit provides a focus for the team working skills that form an important part of the module.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Search, select and use a variety of information sources both academic and practice related.
Use academic referencing systems accurately.
Present verbally and in writing to high standard modifying styles for specific audiences.
Work successfully as part of a team delivering specific outputs and reflect on their individual contributions to group activities.
Assessments: 1,000 word essay (50%)
Small group presentation and poster (40%). Reflection on residential visit to Coniston (250 words) (10%)
Reassessment: 1500 word essay; 500 word reflection on skills development (10%).
