This module is intended to provide students with a critical awareness of major issues and problems associated with today’s business environment. Topics normally covered by the module include: Philosophy of Business; Globalisation: concepts and definitions; Corporate Governance; Ethics in Management and Corporate Social Responsibility so that by the end of the module participants should have developed an understanding of some of the key factors relating to the role of business in society.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the importance of, and the fundamental role played by, the environment in which a business operates on the development of its strategic goals and plans.
Demonstrate understanding of terminologies, theoretical concepts and methods related to analysing the business environment and critically evaluate such concepts.
Identify and evaluate the role of environmental factors in the management of a business and in particular situations.
Research, synthesise and apply business environment knowledge to real-world examples.
Critically analyse business environment issues that could affect the operational, marketing, competitive or strategic decisions of a business.
Demonstrate skills in verbal and written communication, team working, and critical analysis
