Description This module is intended to provide students with a critical awareness of major issues associated with Innovation Management. The module may cover areas such as:
  • The definitions of innovation management
  • How organisations can develop robust innovation processes
  • How innovation management relates to strategy and organisational performance
  • How innovation management is related to technology development and Intellectual Property
  • How organisational barriers to innovation arise and how to overcome them
  • How the development of networks can facilitate innovation in large organisations
Through the course of this module participants will explore some of the key Innovation Management frameworks and models, how they can be applied within a range of organisations and to what effect.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of innovation management in the context of the competitive environment of large organisations
  • Understand the different theoretical approaches and models that underpin innovation management and outcomes and be able to critical evaluate such theories
  • Critically analyse the innovation management practices of a range of large organisations, identifying both successful approaches and barriers to innovation
  • Demonstrate a critical awareness of the importance of opportunity recognition and evaluation processes involved in developing innovation within large organisations
  • Demonstrate a critical awareness of the importance of technology, intellectual property and networks in facilitating innovation within large organisations
  • Demonstrate skills in verbal and written communication, team working, and critical analysis
