Description This module is intended to provide students with a critical awareness of major issues associated with Strategic Management. By the end of the module participants will have developed an understanding of the key Strategic Management theories, models and frameworks and how they are applied.

The module covers these key areas:
  • The purpose of strategic management
  • How strategic management drives organisational performance
  • How strategic management theories models and frameworks are applied in practice.
The limitations of strategic management theories models and frameworks
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Identify and systematically explain the purpose of strategic management
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the advantages and limitations of the key strategic management models and frameworks
  • Critically evaluate how strategy drives organisational performance and competitiveness
  • Analyse and critique the strategies of a range of organisations
  • Demonstrate skills in verbal and written communication, team working, and critical analysis
Assessment 29534-01 : Group presentation and report : Coursework (20%)
29534-02 : Exam : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (80%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments:

Group presentation - Presentation plus 1,000 word group report (20%)

2 Hour Exam (80%)

Reassessment: 2 Hour Exam (100%)

These assessment methods will be contextualised to meet the individual needs of the module.
