Description This module will develop the students’ academic approach to market analysis and trading. It will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how financial markets operate in the real world and how inter-market correlations affect market prices. Students will learn about the external influences that cause the fluctuations of currencies, debt securities, stocks, shares and commodities and will have access to real time market information on which to apply this knowledge. The module will also cover current customs, practices, regulations and ethical behaviour within global financial markets. The course is presented by professional traders who will share their experiences in the market to help students derive maximum benefit from many sources of information currently available.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • trade and demonstrate a critical understanding of current regulations, customs, practices and ethical behaviour in financial markets;
  • interpret a variety of information from different sources and evaluate systematically the potential impact of the information on foreign exchange rates and market prices of bonds, commodities and stocks in the near future;
  • evaluate the performance of currencies and securities and determine whether a currency or a security is under-priced or over-priced;
  • interact effectively and correctly with ‘market colleagues’ using appropriate market terminology and etiquette;
  • use modern information technology to evaluate and trade different types of securities and currencies;
  • calculate and critically evaluate the profit or loss realised from transactions in various market scenarios.

    30092-02 : 1 Hour Class Test : Class Test (25%)
    Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment: 1 x one Class Test (25%) and 1 x 2 hour examination (75%).
    Reassessment: A 2 hour examination
