Description
The module introduces students to international human resource management (IHRM) theories and practice, with an emphasis on how external and internal environmental factors shape HR policies and strategies in cross-border company operations. In particular, it provides up-to-date information on the relative benefits of HRM programmes in headquarters, subsidiaries and associated companies in different cultural, institutional and organizational contexts.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Assess the key challenges facing MNCs with regard to HRM policies and strategies and the ways these challenges can be addressed in different socio-economic contexts.
Critically engage with different IHRM strategies and evaluate their contribution to organizational performance.
Assess organizational needs for employee resourcing, training & development, performance appraisal and reward policies in multinational companies.
Critically evaluate the roles of national institutions and cultures in shaping HR practices in MNCs.
