Description This module aims to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to think about business opportunities in the context of digital economy. It encourages students to evaluate the trajectory of technology and the patterns of digital business models, and use of creative insights to develop innovative business models and strategies for sustainable competitive advantage. Students will learn how to develop digital business models by having deep understandings of how technology generates management impacts.

The module will critically reflect upon the roles of digital innovation in strategy-making, and develop practical skills to make sense of the technological possibilities, as well as the practical skills to develop sustainable business models. These skills have been highly valued by employers of management consultancy, financial institutions, international organizations, and governments. This module will also aim to offer a senior level engagement with individuals from industry partners to provide students with a unique learning and personal development experience and opportunity.

Learning Outcomes By the end of the module, students should be able to:
  • Develop solutions to complex strategic digital business problems through the application of theories and frameworks to real life business situations
  • Critically evaluate the role of external and internal factors in the development of digital business strategies, including the impact of globalisation, economic, ethical, legal and social challenges on digital business practice
  • Use relevant statistical programmes/software to critically analyse “Big Data”, generate and present a range of justified solutions, demonstrating logical consistency and adequacy of conclusions
  • Communicate complex concepts and ideas professionally in a range of oral and written formats as an individual and as part of a team .
