The extended essay enables you to undertake independent research into a management topic or question that interests you and to learn to write up your investigation and conclusions in an interesting, well-organised, and scholarly way. Topic choices will be limited and must be approved by the Programme Director.
Based on your topic, you will be assigned a Supervisor most suitable to help you with your research, who will help you determine a research question and will discuss with you the best methods of approach. Depending on its exact nature, your extended essay will involve several but not necessarily all of the following: a critical review of the relevant literature, gathering of secondary data evidence, an analysis of these data, a discussion and your own recommendations.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
undertake independent, though supervised, research in an area of interest to them;
undertake a thorough review of the available literature;
use their initiative in collecting relevant material and data and draw appropriate conclusions from assembled theses;
present a well-written, cogently and critically argued extended essay.
