Description Confident and proficient English skills are vital to ensure progression and this module provides academic English development in a number of key areas at B2 level of the CEFR framework, namely the ability to use English effectively and concisely to communicate orally and in writing. Using small group teaching, students will practise techniques for improving their academic listening skills; they will develop their ability to read relevant technical articles supplied by the department and using these articles they will increase their speaking and writing skills through small group discussion and the practice of academic writing techniques to summarise these articles.

Students will continue to build personal relationships in the groups and make use of Pebblepad. An e-portfolio will be maintained on Pebblepad as part of the learning outcome.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Communicate orally with confidence and participate effectively in a small group, using appropriate English.
  • Present the findings of the group-work discussion orally in a presentation to an audience and make recommendation/offer solutions where relevant
  • Reflect on the successes and challenges of group work.
