This module explores how organisational behaviour and operational processes influence organisational performance. To start, the module investigates the way that people behave and interact in organisations. This section of the module aims to critically develop student knowledge in the fundamental theoretical and practical issues concerning the management of organisations. The student will understand how organisations are structured, how they function and how people behave in organisations. The module will introduce key issues in the workplace for managers and workers, and place them in the context of recent developments in academic research.
The module then develops student knowledge of Operations and Process Management, explaining how the Operations function fits within the organisation overall. This part of the module explores how actors outside the core Operations function engage in the management of processes. It demonstrates the wide organisational scope of Operations Management activity and will establish an understanding of the core concepts underpinning the discipline. The module covers both service and manufacturing organisations, and introduces the principles of the “lean” operation.
