The module focuses on transformation and innovations in supply chains driven by different technologies such as internet of things, augmented reality, big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning. The first part of the module examines how companies can utilize the opportunities provided by leading-edge digital technologies to enhance their supply chain management. Specifically, students in this part examine concepts and applications of digital technologies that can lead to integrated and enhanced supply chain.
In the second part, by combining theoretical and practical knowledge, the module develops students’ data-oriented thinking and skills that are critical for managing supply chains. Through this part, students understand the role of data analytics, its process from understanding business problems, to preparing data, to building different analytical models such as regressions, decisions trees, neural networks, to implementing those models. Further, the second part provides an opportunity for students to apply what they learn to address supply chain problems and challenges. Guest lecturers will be invited from relevant companies and other industrial leaders, to present business applications of digital technologies in Supply Chain Management.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Critically assess the range of digital technologies being utilised within supply chains, including the role of data and data science in driving supply chain decisions and supporting new disruptive models of business and its impact on organisational performance.
Critically evaluate the business value of different digital technologies and data-driven decision making for SCM.
Critically discuss the various decision building blocks with Logistics and SCM including inventory, capacity management and forecasting.
Critically discuss the different analytics tools available for SCM decision making, and be able to analyse and interpret data to assist businesses in SCM decision making process
Apply a critical approach, using analytical and digital skills to problem solving in supply chain management.
