Exclusions
Description Students on the MSc Management programme will be able to complete either a company based, or traditional dissertation. Company based dissertations will operate on a competitive basis and students will need to apply and be successful in the recruitment process. Those students who wish to undertake a company based dissertation but are unsuccessful in obtaining an industry/ company based project will complete a traditional dissertation. The dissertation will be written up as an academic style report including, for example: an abstract; introduction and problem definition; literature review; methodology; findings based on organisational data analysis; discussion, conclusion and recommendations. Where students are allocated to an industry partner, the partner company will be willing to allow data analysis and research on a topic that they introduce, or the students can offer. Where the students were allowed to carry on a company research of their choice, students may acquire access to the company primary and/or secondary within the UK GDPR regulations and the University’s ethical considerations.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Design, plan and execute an independent research project, including the selection and application of appropriate research methods.
  • Identify and justify management issues that are of relevance to the particular organizations, or industry sectors under study.
  • Critically analyse and discuss existing literature, contemporary policy and practice relevant to the chosen management issues.
  • Undertake a systematic analysis of quantitative and/or qualitative information and present the results in a clear and consistent manner.
  • Analyse and evaluate empirical evidence and assess its implications for theory and practice.
  • Demonstrate competence in postgraduate study skills, particularly critical writing and analytical skills.
