This introductory module is designed to provide a fundamental understanding of supply chain and operations management. Students will learn the importance of effective supply chain planning processes relevant to contemporary operations. It introduces students to fundamental supply chain concepts, processes and models. In addition, the module will focus on the role of information integration to understand the challenges in planning, managing and controlling operations and supply chains in competitive environments.
The activities in seminar sessions will include practical exercises and will encourage students to engage in debates around practical operations and supply chain problems and to develop analytical and problem-solving skills.

By the end of the module students should be able to:
Explain supply chain concepts and challenges in planning, managing and controlling the supply chains.
Examine and evaluate supply chain planning processes necessary to plan, manage and control the supply chains.
Develop, apply and analyse supply chain models, methods and techniques necessary in planning, managing and controlling the supply chains
Articulate a strategic management perspective that places the firm within its wider supply chains and emphasises the importance of the effective management of supply chain relationships and operations.
Apply analytical skills and critical approaches to problem solving for complex issues in supply chain planning and management.
