Description This module builds upon the introductory module that focused upon a fundamental understanding of supply chain and operations management and supply chain planning processes. This module explores, in greater detail, how to effectively design and then manage supply chains in a sustainable manner. This module seeks to extend the depth of knowledge about the development and implementation of sustainable supply chain strategies. It focusses on the processes adopted by supply chain professionals: analysis, development, and most important, the implementation of operations and supply chain strategies and refinement in response to changes in the wider context.

Alongside the academic knowledge, the development of employability skills will be achieved through practical work and, where appropriate, simulations in which students will be supported to develop their ability to choose the most effective strategies, assess implementation and managerial implications.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Explain how to design and manage sustainable supply chains.
  • Articulate a strategic management perspective that places the firm within its wider supply chains and emphasises the importance of the effective creation and management of supply chain relationships and operations.
  • Examine and evaluate methods for measuring and improving the performance of supply chains.
  • Develop, apply and analyse sustainable supply chain strategies and techniques.
  • Assess the impact of emerging trends and issues, such as the range of digital technologies utilised in supply chains, and its role in supply chain design and organisational performance.
  • Apply analytical skills and critical approaches to problem solving for complex issues in measuring and improving supply chain performance.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and team working skills (teamwork and interpersonal skills) in the analysis of supply chain performance and communication of supply chain design choices.
