Description
In this module students will have the opportunity to study a package of ‘micro courses’ that they self-select based on their personal objectives. These micro courses cover practical analytics skills (such as advanced Excel modelling) as well as employment focussed skills (such as Design Thinking) and underlying data concepts such as data privacy and ethics. With guidance from the module teaching team, each student will develop a package of courses suited to their employment objectives.
All students will study coding in Python. To evidence the development of their coding skills all students will keep a portfolio of completed coding tasks.
The micro courses may be taught by the module team or be ‘badged’ courses from other providers including industry recognised programmes from companies such as IBM and Microsoft. Each student will prepare a package of micro courses and have these agreed by the module teaching team. Through the module students will keep a learning journal that records their development and learning.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate coding skills relevant to the development of analytics applications and projects.
Display and demonstrate expertise in their chosen package of micro courses
Assess their own training needs and curate learning experiences that address these
Evaluate their own learning and relate this to career objectives
Evaluate the skill sets required by employers as these relate to their own development.
Assessments: Completed portfolio of coding projects (2500 words equivalent) (50%) (Semester 1), Evidence of completion of micro courses (completion certificates or badges) (1500 words equivalent) (25%) and Learning Journal (1500 words) (25%)
Reassessment: Reassessment by failed component - Completed portfolio of coding projects (2500 words equivalent) (50%), Evidence of completion of micro courses (completion certificates or badges) (1500 words equivalent) (25%) and Learning Journal (1500 words) (25%)
