Description This module provides students with a critical awareness of major issues associated with entrepreneurship and sustainable entrepreneurship among dynamic start-up ventures.

The module starts by exploring definitions of entrepreneurship and considering the similarities and differences between entrepreneurship, sustainable entrepreneurship, and related concepts such as social enterprise. The relevance and application of key concepts to the practice of sustainable entrepreneurship (environmental, social and economic) will then be examined.

Students will actively explore theories and frameworks relating to the entrepreneurial mindset, creativity and opportunity recognition, and the venture creation process by working in teams to develop business solutions to a real-world challenge inspired by a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal.

Students will also have the opportunity to take external visits and participate in entrepreneurial networking events.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Evaluate entrepreneurship and sustainable entrepreneurship in the context of the competitive environment for dynamic sustainable start-ups.
  • Critically discuss different theoretical approaches and models that underpin entrepreneurship and sustainable entrepreneurship and critically evaluate such theories.
  • Create and critically analyse ideas and plans for sustainable entrepreneurial opportunities by applying appropriate business model frameworks, including considerations of customer segments, relationships, and communication channels; key activities, partnerships and resources required; and costs and revenue streams.
  • Demonstrate effective team working and interpersonal skills.
  • Tailor communications to different types of audiences and stakeholders.
