Description Sports Operation and Management explores the dynamic and evolving world of managing sports organizations, events, and facilities. This module offers students an introduction to the core principles of operations and management within the context of the sports industry. It examines how sports organizations deliver services, engage stakeholders, manage resources, and respond to digital transformation, sustainability, and global challenges. Through real-world case studies, students will gain insights into how strategic and operational decisions are made in both grassroots and elite sport contexts.

Whether you're interested in running a local club, managing a stadium, or contributing to international sport governance, this module provides a strong foundation for future study or career pathways. It is suitable for students from a range of backgrounds and does not require prior knowledge of sports business or management.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Critically discuss key operational principles and management practices in sports contexts;
  • Critically evaluate the impact of digital technologies and sustainability considerations on sports operations and event management;
  • Apply theoretical frameworks to solve practical problems related to resource allocation, stakeholder engagement, and service delivery in sport.
