Description

The module explores essential concepts and debates in international economics. Its main objectives are to provide an understanding of key aspects of international macroeconomic issues and to develop analytical skills which can be used in addressing these issues and relevant macroeconomic policy. The module begins by introducing main macroeconomic issues, their measurement and effects on society. This is followed by an introduction to ideas and tools of modern macroeconomic analysis and how these tools can be applied to macroeconomic policy issues. The topics covered include: determinants of national income, the role that money and financial institutions play in an economy, exchange rate determination and exchange rate regimes.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module students will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key concepts in macroeconomics and international economics;
  • develop analytical skills for interpreting and evaluating key international macroeconomic data;
  • assess and formulate macroeconomic policy propositions.
