Description

This module serves as an introduction to financial and business systems. The first part of this module concentrates on financial institutions and markets, financial instruments (government bonds, shares, and derivatives) and financial decision making. An emphasis is placed on introducing the main mechanisms by which financial markets operate. The second half presents a number of models, framework and insights for the better understanding of organisations, with a focus on how organisations have adapted their structures and strategies to the challenges of operating in the modern environment. In both parts of the module, an emphasis is placed on explaining current affairs and the most up-to date developments in finance and business.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module students will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key features of major financial instruments and markets;
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of organisations and management of business organisations, including financial decision making;
  • apply concepts and principles to explain recent developments in the operations of modern financial markets and businesses.
