Description	Intended to further develop students' and researchers' skills on qualitative data analysis, this module focuses on the use of computer-assisted methods in handling and managing textual data. It will cover the principles of qualitative data analysis; the challenges of managing qualitative data; moving beyond description and integrating multiple data sets and qualitative data in different forms. Students will explore the epistemological bases of analytical approaches in qualitative research, reflect on how to achieve rigour in the analytical process and understand how good analysis can underpin credible findings. Using NVivo students will have the opportunity to: Creating and populating an NVivo project; Coding documents as cases and assigning attributes; Coding text at free and tree nodes; Selecting text using the 'queries' tool; Developing a coding structure by 'coding on' from previous codes or queries; Coding relations between previously coded text; Use of models to visualize relationships between codes Use of memos to supplement the coding process; Using Nvivo products when reporting research findings.
Learning Outcomes	By the end of the module the student should be able to; have a clear understanding and appreciation of the principles which underpin high quality qualitative data analysis in a range of contexts; make informed choices and decisions about the management of qualitative data; plan and implement qualitative data analysis that facilitates explanation and theory building; understand how to conduct and manage high quality qualitative data analysis document validity and reliability of findings in NVivo report findings using NVivo products
Assessment	22564-01 : 2500-3000 assignment : Coursework (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions	A 2,500 word report on data analysis report using a computer-assisted methods, plus appendices of codes and themes developed.
