Description
This module focuses on leadership in a public organizational context. It explores the strategies, actions and skills required for effective leadership in that context and provides the opportunity for participants to examine their own leadership approaches and styles and to assess how they might develop themselves in this regard into the future. The module examines leadership traits and characteristics of both leadership and followership and the associated positive and negative aspects. And it considers the distinction between personal attributes of leadership and those pertaining to the wider organizational setting.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Critically understand the nature of leadership in a public organizational context;
Critically analyse their own leadership style and have a clear sense of how it might be developed;
Demonstrate in-depth understanding of key theoretical and conceptual models underpinning leadership especially as it applies in a public organizational context;
Demonstrate understanding of the distinction between personal and organisational development.

23923-01 : Assessment : Class Test (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions
Assessments: One 3000 word assignment (50%) and one three-hour seen case study exam (50%)
Reassessment: Students will be given one opportunity to resubmit any assignment which causes them to fail the module.
