This module is designed to develop students’ understanding of, and employability in, one of three areas of policy delivery – community justice, health and social care, and housing. The unit is designed around an observational placement opportunity, with a service provider organisation in either the statutory or voluntary sector. Seminars and tutorials will prepare students for their placements, and support the process of reflective learning. Throughout the placement, students will keep a reflective learning diary using the virtual learning environment, and will meet to critically reflect on their experiences. It is anticipated that for students on a specialist pathway, the observational placement will provide a preparation for a work-based dissertation. On completion of the placement, students will prepare a presentation for students and staff on their placement experience and complete a report setting their placement experience within relevant policy and organisational contexts and identifying their own learning about policy in practice.
