This compulsory module assists the development of appropriate skills and values in relation to social work approaches, including issues of accountability, personal and professional boundaries, communication skills, and anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practice. Through a series of workshops, role play and use of the video suite the module will prepare the students for their first practice placement.

Assessment 1) Submission of a 3000 – 3300 word portfolio incorporating reflections on personal and professional development in relation to the learning outcomes. This portfolio is graded at 100% of the academic module assessment
Alongside the above academic assessment, the following element is a professional requirement the students have to pass.
2) Completion of a 10-minute role-play interview with a service user or carer, assessed by a Panel consisting of a service user/carer, practitioner and academic. This part of the assessment is Pass/Fail.
Both components must be passed to complete the module and are therefore ‘internal hurdles’.
Reassessment A student can re-sit each component separately where necessary in order to pass the overall assessment.
