The course will focus on the development of modern international environmental law as one of the most challenging legal disciplines. The course will be complementary to the existing LLM Programme on International Commercial Law. The following topics will be address: Climate Change and the Atmospheric Pollution; International Trade Law and Environmental Protection, Interstate Enforcement: State Responsibility, Treaty Compliance and Dispute Settlement for Environmental Damage; Human Rights and Environment, Ecosystems and Biodiversity and Environmental Risk Assessment (with special emphasis on nuclear safety); Energy and the Environment.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of international environmental law and policy;
Demonstrate knowledge of the environmental jurisprudence of international tribunals
Understand the interconnections between environmental law and other areas of international commercial law;
Apply the above knowledge to legal problems and suggest appropriate solutions
