Exclusions
Description This module will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for understanding, critically appraising, applying and conducting research.

The module will develop learning around three core areas:
Research methods and methodologies
The political context of research
The application of research to practice

The module will enable students to develop specific skills relating to social research and the integration of these within a framework of social work values and research ethics and quality.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Apply research from a variety of different theoretical perspectives to social work practice issues
  • Apply research from a variety of different theoretical perspectives to social work practice issues
  • Inform decision-making through the identification and gathering of information from more than one source and question its reliability and validity
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to evaluate and review hypotheses in response to information available at the time and apply in practice with support
  • Integrate knowledge of anti oppressive and anti discriminatory practice within a research framework.
  • Apply the profession's ethical principles to social work research and identify ethical tensions and challenges in the gathering and use of information.
  • Value and take account of the expertise of service users and carers and professionals in generating and contributing to knowledge.
  • Demonstrate they understand and are working towards Social Work England’s professional standards in readiness for their application for registration.
