Description This module uses classic and contemporary political science research on substantive political issues to introduce students to a range of key theories, concepts and debates within the discipline. The module thus allows students to consider a range of approaches to political analysis, to the nature and distribution of power, and to state-societal relations in contemporary systems.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Achieve a critical understanding of why the core of Political Science is contested and why the discipline is characterised by diversity and pluralism;
  • Display a familiarity with a range of contemporary approaches to political analysis and the study of the state;
  • Utilise particular theories and concepts in the analysis of substantive political issues.
