Description The Economics Extended Essay enables you to undertake independent research into an economic topic or question that interests you and to learn to write up your investigation and conclusions in an interesting, well-organised, and scholarly way. You will choose possible broad topic areas from a long list of suggestions and be assigned a Supervisor for one of these, who will help you determine a research question and will discuss with you the best methods of approach. Depending on its exact nature, your Essay will involve several but not necessarily all of the following: a critical review of the relevant literature, gathering of evidence, a statistical or econometric component, evaluation and analysis, your own recommendations.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • demonstrate an ability to work on their own;
  • to use their initiative in collecting and presenting material;
  • undertake a thorough review of the available literature;
  • draw appropriate conclusions from assembled data;
  • present an academic essay;
  • gain experience in organising work with other students, if they choose to work in groups.
