Description This module is designed to enable students to analyse the rapid changes presently occurring in aid management and development cooperation, particularly with regard to the increased importance of international aid in many countries, rise of so-called ‘emerging donors’ and development provision by non-state actors, recipient country-led approaches, aid and other development instruments and the increasingly critical need for skills in team-working between donors and governments and among donors.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Discuss critically how development cooperation is changing
  • Explore the complexity of the relationship between development cooperation and politics
  • Critically evaluate the relationship between development cooperation and public finances
  • Critically evaluate the relationship between development cooperation and economic and social development
  • Critically evaluate the relationship between development cooperation and the private sector
  • Critically evaluate the relationship between development cooperation and humanitarian emergencies
