Description
The module examines a range of theories, concepts and strategic approaches in Human Resource Management. It discusses the influence of social and cultural factors on the selection and implementation of HR strategies in different contexts, eg in public and private sectors and in developed, developing and transitional economies. In addition, it addresses the issues of values and ethics in an international context - and their influence on the management of human resources, particuarly in countries undergoing government reform
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Critically evaluate contemporary approaches to HRM and the role of HR in different types of organization and different contexts.
Analyse critically the organizational, cultural and technological influences on the practice of HRM.
Critically analyse the concept of strategy in relation to human resources.
Undertake an in-depth analysis of a selected organisation and discuss its current Human Resource Management strategy.
