Description This module introduces students to the planning and delivery of development projects. The focus is on income generation and welfare projects with examples taken from a range of development bank, donor, government and NGO funded sources. The module is built around the project cycle, begins with project identification and continues through logical framework based planning and project design to organisation, management and evaluation. Assignments include the preparation of an application for grant funding and the design of an organisation for an NGO partnership. The module is practice based with widespread use of exercises, several based on real projects. It is introductory in nature and no prior knowledge of finance or economics is required.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module, students shouls be able to:
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of the project cycle and its components
  • Design, manage and evaluate simple projects
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of larger development projects.
