Description The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive grounding in construction law and how the law affects the construction industry in Dubai and other prominent jurisdictions including:
  • An analysis of the specific features of the construction contract.
  • Drafting and concluding the contract and typical standard forms and contractual documentation;
  • Managing the construction process;
  • Project finance;
  • The legal aspects of the use of technology within the construction industry;
  • Environmental regulation;
  • Dispute avoidance and dispute resolution in the construction industry;
  • Problem solving; legal and commercial considerations;
The aim of this module is to educate students about the construction contract and legal issues surrounding international construction projects. The course will involve a large applied practical element through the use of realistic case studies. Students will be involved in drafting and negotiating construction agreements, advising on various contractual issues and resolving construction disputes.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate understanding of key construction contract principles and doctrines and have familiarity with key industry forms;
  • Use research skills to identify and assess appropriate legal sources including domestic and international sources and soft law;
  • Develop an understanding of the technological and environmental issues impacting on construction projects;
  • Demonstrate understanding of the various dispute resolution methods widely used in the industry;
  • Draft legal advice in the area of international construction law and offer practical solutions to complex contractual problems (including negotiation and dispute resolution).
