This module will offer students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the sources, dynamics and consequences of contemporary security. The module will analyse contemporary threats to security, including those associated with political violence at the sub-state and international levels, and the challenges that they pose to governments and international organisations concerned with security.

To explore the sources and nature of political violence in the context of security studies
To examine the manifestations of contemporary political violence
To examine the policy and other responses of key actors to contemporary political violence and other security challenges
