Becoming an effective Systems Thinking and Leadership Practitioner is not a linear process – the knowledge, skills, practices and development that you encounter interact with and reinforce one another. However, the constraints of a taught programme mean that you tend to be presented with material in a linear way. For that reason, this module provides an overview of the theoretical, methodological and practice-oriented basis of the programme. During this module you will start to build your systems literacy, and will be introduced to foundational concepts, theories and models from systems thinking. You will explore the role of perception and attention in meaning-making and its relevance for Systems Leadership Practice. You will consider the role of leadership in your practice. You will be introduced to personal and group practices, both to develop you as a leader and as essential capabilities for you to become an effective Systems Thinking and Leadership Practitioner.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding and critical awareness of the history and context of both systems thinking and systems leadership.
Demonstrate basic skills in evaluating different systems principles and approaches to a live issue, showing an appreciation of the pros and cons of each one.
Demonstrate a basic understanding of the systems and leadership theory underpinning the need for individual and group reflective practice, and be able to discuss and critically reflect on the theory and on their own personal engagement with reflective practice.
