Exclusions
Description This module enables the student to demonstrate professional competence in a substantial AI and data science research project, applying material learned across the degree programme. Students will utilise research methods, data science methods and appropriate AI tools to design solutions that take full account of the appropriate public sector frameworks. Projects are chosen from staff suggestions or are developed from the student's original idea. Projects may involve co-supervisors from multiple disciplines.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Apply core machine learning techniques and algorithms to a public sector data science problem.
  • Examine the practical, ethical and legal considerations in deploying AI solutions in a public sector context.
  • Design an end-to-end AI/ML solution for a public policy issue, taking into account relevant technical and non-technical factors.
  • Communicate the costs, benefits and limitations of the AI solution through written reports and oral presentations.
