Description Students will be presented with a selection of problems raising legal, commercial and ethical issues that legal service providers and associated services face in the real world and will be required to work in groups to research the associated issues and devise a 'solution' to one of those problems. Problems will be posed by a range of partners from commercial and service industries potentially academic colleagues on issues arising from or linked to their research.

It is anticipated that solutions proposed by students might encompass: use of technology (e.g., development of apps or use of websites); forms of public legal education and training; and development or re-engineering of systems and work models, etc. Students will be introduced to examples of such legal, commercial and ethical solutions and approaches to addressing them through the taught component of the module. They will be required to present their solution in a summative presentation and to reflect on the process.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Utilise independent research skills to develop an understanding of a real life legal, commercial and ethical scenario.
  • Work with other students to analyse and evaluate the findings of independent research in order to create an appropriate and effective solution to a prescribed legal, commercial and ethical problem.
  • Plan, write and deliver a presentation that demonstrates the group's collective analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Critically reflect on their collective performance.
