The module is designed to focus on a thoughtful and critical account of the legal issues generated by Property Law as it relates to Real Property. This may include an examination of the following aspects: fundamental concepts of Real Property such as Property and Land; the relationship between Law and Equity; tenure; estates and interests in land; priority of title; registration of title to land; freeholds; leaseholds; licences to use land; the trust of land and co-ownership; mortgages; freehold and leasehold covenants; adverse possession; proprietary estoppel; and easements. Principles of Property Law in the UAE will also be considered.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate the ability to independently identify, research, retrieve and evaluate timely, accurate and relevant information (both paper-based and electronic) from a range of appropriate sources to Property Law, including primary and secondary sources.
Identify theories, concepts, values, principles, rules and key areas of Property Law
Apply these theories, concepts, values, principles and rules to problem scenarios through identifying legally relevant issues, arguing by analogy, and distinguishing previous cases on relevant facts
Summarise the social, economic and political context in which Property Law operates.
Construct and write answers providing rationales for judgements so formed that relate to standard arguments in areas covered in the module.
Present ideas in a fluent and cogent manner, using specialist legal terminology correctly.
