This module will introduce students to the theory and practice of social research. In this module, students will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to allow them to solidify and expand their understanding of social research and prepare them to design and conduct independent research. This will be done through a series of activities including lectures, and seminars. Students will engage with relevant debates on the topic from academic, policy and practice perspectives. The module aims to provide a well-rounded overview of social research in general as well as prepare students to conduct social research independently in their own study area.

Critically understand the underpinnings of social research in general and its application in various social science disciplines.
Recognise the link between different elements of social research design.
Be critically aware of the range of social research designs available.
Critically evaluate, compare and contrast social research design and their linkages to specific research questions.
