This module first examines different approaches to understanding and measuring poverty. It then goes on to explore how different axes of social difference (gender, age, ethnicity) combine in different ways through intersectionality, affecting poverty, inequality and development, positively as well as negatively. The module also covers participatory development in both the project and policy contexts, the sustainable livelihoods approach to development, and the importance of social movements in terms of reducing poverty and inequality.
