Exclusions
Description These linked modules provide oral, aural and written language activities of gradually increasing sophistication performed both in the written language class and in the oral class. The language class is also linked closely to the grammar (interactive) lecture hour, reinforcing the grammatical topics which are thoroughly introduced, practiced and tested. Additional activities include: laboratory sessions focusing on oral and aural proficiency, and the use of web-based programmes and material.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Understand basic grammatical terminology and have an understanding of a range of grammatical topics. On completing this module, students should have achieved level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  • Demonstrate an awareness of French sounds and patterns of intonation as well as an increased understanding of spoken French.
  • Write and speak with increased fluency and accuracy.
  • Perform a range of written and oral tasks (producing texts (persuasive, argumentative) in response to a given stimulus in a variety of registers transforming or rewriting French source texts according to specified stylistic criteria, taking part in a table ronde debate and analysing visual documents).
  • Demonstrate a familiarity with the range of resources available to support their active language learning.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively both through participation in class work and the interactive lectures and by using a variety of self-testing facilities (including IT).
