Exclusions
Description Students learn a wide variety of the fundamental grammatical and syntactic features of the Russian language; read Russian texts of appropriate difficulty with the aid of a dictionary; write short narratives/essays of up to 250 words on topics such as your daily routine at university, your home town etc.; hold simple conversations, ask questions, talk about topics such as yourself, your family, hobbies etc.; translate Russian texts of an appropriate level into English and sometime – Russian texts into Russian.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • have achieved level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  • Perform simple translations using basic texts
  • Demonstrate oral competence by speaking about topics covered in the module
  • Read and understand short semi-authentic texts in Russian from various sources
  • Express themselves in written Russian through short essays and dialogues
  • Demonstrate aural competence when listening to spoken Russian when dealing with highly predictable topics
  • Display a knowledge of appropriate grammatical structures
