Exclusions
Description The module aims to foster written and translation skills in the language, building on the linguistic skills acquired in Year 1. Translation sessions will focus on comprehension of journalistic texts and the analysis of translation difficulties when translating from French into English. A key emphasis will be the relationship between intended readership and linguistic/stylistic choices. An additional feature of the module will be more effective use of dictionary and press resources, online translation tools.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module the student should be able to:
  • demonstrate an awareness of translation difficulties and idiomatic usage.
  • demonstrate a good knowledge of comprehension and translation skills from French into English
  • involving texts of a more sophisticated nature than those studied as part of Level C modules. research a topic relating to contemporary French society.
Assessment 15640-04 : 1,000 word translation project and commentary : Coursework (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments: 1 x translation project of 1000 words + a commentary of 700 words (100%)

Reassessment: Re-submission of summative assessment in August supplementary period.
