Description
This module builds on the knowledge acquired during a year's study in Japan. It will teach students to critically analyse written and spoken Japanese and to develop different styles of writing and undertake research on topics of their choice. This module also aims to enhance students' ability to express themselves in Japanese through the preparation of an oral presentation and debate to be delivered at the end of the module.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
Write a substantial piece in Japanese using different styles of writing
Use technical vocabulary that relates to their speech topic and/or degree subject.
Better understand speech formatting and language.
Undertake extensive individual research of material, through library research including Internet and /or interview.
Use IT tools such as word-processing and the World Wide Web more effectively
Access the language autonomously
Present information clearly to an audience
Explain and support their own opinion

In-class Listening Assessment (20 minutes, 40%)
A writing speech comprising 2400-3000 Japanese characters (20%)
An oral presentation followed by a discussion (that stimulates discussion (15 minutes, 40%)
