Description
This module involves the student, with the guidance of a supervisor, identifying an appropriate field of research in the area of their specialised subject; identifying and examining relevant primary and secondary sources; considering and utilising appropriate methodologies and theories; and writing an extended argument in the form of a 12,000 word dissertation using scholarly apparatus correctly.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:Produce a plan for the investigation and structure of their dissertation;Carry out a thorough and detailed analysis of primary and secondary sources for their chosen topic building upon the research skills they have gained;Employ methodologies self-consciously and appropriately, drawing on skills they have gained through Critical Approaches seminars;Understand and engage with, where relevant, recent theoretical developments in History of Art;Write up and present a dissertation with a sustained argument and interpretation of the evidence on the chosen topic, using correct scholarly apparatus.
