Description The knowledge acquired in Egyptian Language 1 will be supplemented by study of the verbal system. This forms the basis for the reading of a sample of literary, religious or historical texts from the Middle Kingdom onwards.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module the student should be able to:
  • translate passages of Middle Egyptian texts;
  • explain the main features of the Middle Egyptian verbal system;
  • show awareness of the historical/cultural background of the texts being studied.
  • use their linguistic knowledge to employ primary texts in the original language as well as in translation when addressing archaeological and historical questions;
  • identify and address problems of interpretation, lexicography and translation.
